A Few more quilts from 2012

Image
These were adorable and so much fun to work on!  I wish I had a frame to hang these from for photos....   Maybe next year.  Also no idea why when I upload to Picasa first, I get this gray bar on the bottom of my photos?  Oh well....  the last of the client quilts for 2012 and they were so much FUN to work on!     The Doggie one got a simple loopy meander with a dog bone quilted in here and there.   The dragon one was ADORABLE but with the bright dark colors, I worried that custom quilting would be lost over most of the quilt top.   I used a panto "fluffy clouds" with a variegated thread hoping to pick up a feel like clouds and/or dragons breath on the piece.

New Pillows!

I've been wanting to make a change in color scheme for my home.  With our recent move and oversized furniture being sold at a yard sale, I find that it is possible to do this now.  Currently the only upholstered furniture in my living room and dining room is a tan sofa.   Beige carpet, beige toned tile, darker beige on the wall (a little burgundy inside the ceiling in the dining room and of course burgundy drapes)....   so I still need to keep some of those warm tones in my color scheme but I can break out of my burgundy warm country colors.   Kay at Borderline Quilter  recently posted about some pillows she made.  The colors she used spoke to me!   I thought this is the perfect time to pull some fabric from my stash and make up some brighter throw pillows for the sofa.   I always had my dining room bright but now the formal dining and living room are in one shared space - colors have to blend from one to the other....

Getting settled after the move

Life is beginning to return to "normal" if there can be anything called normal in our household!   The lack of entries since August represents hectic days moving the family from Florida to Texas while hubby was deployed to Afghanistan.   I'm still amazed I was able to get so much done so quickly but quilting really had to be placed on hold.   Downsizing in all aspects, including the 3 car garage with workshop that my hubby had filled almost floor to ceiling to a basic builders' 2 car garage/1 large door and no space to either side of that door.  We still have this garage packed in boxes with things that don't fit inside and a storage space rented to deal with at some future date.  Christmas came and went, hubby arrived home in time for Christmas (and loves the house!) along with a house full of family followed by weeks of all of us coming down with a very nasty virus.   Whew.  On to recovery and back to quilting!...

Washed and Dried Mini Bow Tie Quilt

This finished just the way I had hoped for.   Nice and crinkly yet the quilting design shows distinctly.  All fabrics were pre-wased and dried.   Hobbs 80/20 batting.  The fabric I used for the binding came from my mother's box of stuff from the 70's.   It is really, really thin and she had pieced sections together to make a large back for some quilt that was never done.  Maybe she realized the fabric was too thin too.... but fine for a binding that will never be a well used bed quilt. Kadie says she really likes this one too!
