Amy's Blogger Quilt festival - Modern

Be sure to visit Amy's Modern category  to view all the quilts and vote for your favorites! This quilt is being entered into the Modern Category.  The piecing is not really modern but the way I quilted it, while steeped in traditional techniques is a favored style in modern quilting. I created this piece for our local longarm challenge, you can find that story about SUDS here.  I did turn out rather cool.   But I was very rushed.   It was a 1 day on the longarm, no rip kind of day, also dealing with a back/shoulder aggravation due to pushing myself with all thecustome longarming that I do.   I was in agony that day but I got it done.   If you start looking hard at each element, some techniques and general flow of the quilt has lots of areas for improvement.   But again,  initial impression is good!   I really love the back.  I named the quilt "Fith Grade Primer" ...

Scrappy Bento Box

This quilt was fun to work up.  Candy's bee made units and swapped blocks to really create a delightful scrappy mix of fabrics in this cute quilt.   Once again, she created a really cute quilt.   We took a scrappy modern/traditional approach quilting the logs.   Most often individually but also some in groupings for larger units to create more visual impact.   I love quilt backs and this one does not disappoint me.  The random detail on the back makes me happy!

Blueberry Ice

A very pretty pattern that my client requested I quilt it like the original.  She had the pattern included for me to review.  I changed the feathers and swirls just a little.   Plus her version had 2 borders.   I "ghosted" the design into the first border and added beadboard to the outer border.   Quilters Dream wool batting.  This is going to be so pretty after washing and will be a nice bed quilt.   Backing uses 3 WOF in coordinating prints.

This one is also Debbie's quilt, pieced in holiday red, green, and white fabrics.  Quilted like the example from "Skip The Borders" book by Julie Herman.  It turned out really cute.

Pebbles by the Stream

No idea the true pattern name, that's what I see in this quilt.  The client requested nothing girly and to not use green thread.    This is to be a gift for a young man.  No stitch in the ditch and minimal detail work in the green and plaid squares but lots of detail on the surrounding units.   I would love to see this quilt after it is washed a few times!

Northern Lights Quilt

Image
This is a client's quilt that I would LOVE to have hanging on my walls!  Quilt top pattern is "Northern Lights" by Jinny Beyer.  This one was so much fun to quilt with lots of SID, straight lines, swirls and circles.  I really, really love this quilt and it was so much fun watching her face as she explored the quilted top.  Looking forward to seeing this bound and finished!               Backside shows lots of dimension too.
