Conroe Show Ribbons and TKR update

Image
One of my local guilds, Golden Needles in Conroe, TX  had their show a few weeks ago.   You may remember that their show was scheduled for last year but Hurricane Harvey had other plans.  Our quilts were judged but never hung as the convention center was being used as a shelter.   Sad that those awesome quilts were never on display!   We were able to re-book for this year but only had a year to make new quilts!   Members still pulled off a beautiful display of amazing quilts, the entire show and live auction was awesome. Personally, My Fade To Purple got a 1st place ribbon and Gravity placed 2nd in the same Modern category - all sizes.   Yeah!   Gravity has finally shown in all 3 of my guilds that I am a member of that hosts their own show (modern is too small and no show) /  She finally gets to be hung back in front of my custom longarm machine.   I took it down last fall, it hung at Houston in the T...

Huricane Harvey Update and Custom Quilting Schedules

I wanted to update everyone that all is well at our home.  Our area received about 45" of rain but our home elevation and drainage in my subdivision served us well.  Lots of devastation all around us as a creek is very nearby that flooded but thankfully we were spared.  We sheltered in place, coming home early from a family vacation so that we could gather our pets and all be in one area.  Day 4, we developed a small roof leak from around a vent but my husband was able to get that stopped.  Minimal sheet rock damage over the stairwell that did not necessitate cutting it out... yet.  All equipment and quilts on hand remained dry and safe! We have been very involved with our community and helping others with rescues, shelter needs and with demolition to flooded homes.  It is wonderful seeing the people of our  city coming together to help those in need.  I won't post more photos... I'm sure you have seen enough to last a lifetime! I wa...

Pam's Centennial Sampler Quilt

Image
This is a wonderful assortment of 5" blocks made in reproduction fabrics.   The pattern is Centennial Sampler  by Judie Rothermel.    Some of the prints were sooo  cute! Simflex expanding tool used for marking equal spaces in a shape.   Picture overload, they all sort of look the same as a thumbnail so I just went ahead a put them all in here.  I was trying to get a photo of all the blocks.  Double sashings, a fantastic swag applique border.   But a daunting task to quilt!   I have a hard time minimizing quilting plans, my style leans toward filling up the space!   This was my attempt at lighter custom (ie less hours invested in the quilting).  I chose to frame each piece with a quick crosshatch  that would also showcase the cornerstone "star" at each intersection and could be quilted continuously across the frame....

My Amish With a Twist 3

Image
Nancy Rink has designed 3 versions with the same name for 1, 2 and 3.   I loved #1... never got around to making it.   I  really really loved #2.   Had the good fortune to quilt #2 for a client.   You can see photos of that gorgeous quilt HERE .   Then, I started seeing photos online of #3 and while attending a local show, The Quilt Room nearby was offering this kitted as a BOM.   I signed up. for them to mail to me each month.  I was not going to go for strike 3 on this one.   I made the quilt during my annual August retreat, put it on my schedule to quilt in December... but that didn't happen.   Slid it into March of this year and it was a scramble getting that 108" done... but I got it done and mostly stayed on schedule.   I had entered it in St Mary's non-judged show for April and was sewing the last 3' of binding while my husband drove me to the drop off location....
