2 new quilt tops

Image
I have been working every moment I have had free on my One Block wonder.  Finished the last stitch yesterday just before the school bus delivered the kids.   Bob and I both think I should shop for a different fabric for the last border.  Also included in that last border is the focus fabric that was cut into 60* triangles and joined back together to create some really interesting blocks.   Also, I whipped up in about 2 hours the quilt top for charity - Downey's Touch of Comfort Quilts for Kids..   Will get it quilted in the next few days, they supply the fabric, we supply the batting and sewing skills.  What a great project!

Hopefully a better picture of this to be posted in the future after I get this one quilted.

Whale Watching Excursion!

For our Valentine's Day treat for the family, we enjoyed a couple of hours out on a boat looking for whales.  The boat pulled out from the marina where we live so we did not have to travel far!   We were on this big Kodiak raft type boat that seated 48 adults/children and enjoyed a wet and wild ride.   We barely pulled out of the harbor and saw our first whales.   Beautiful weather, awesome whales, even a sea turtle entertained us.  What a GREAT day.....

That's a humpback whale's head and 1 flipper out.   If you click on the picture you may be able to enlarge or  zoom in to get a closer look!

Our townhouse sits just behind that large hotel.  The construction to the right will be the new Disney Time Share resort.  It is HUGE.  We live on the dry side of the island if you notice the lack of green on the mountain.

Sew-in Updates

I have been juggling several projects lately and will post some progress.  First, I have been working on  Bonnie Hunter's Carolina Chrismas, which I am calling my Hawaii Christmas quilt.   Not sure I like the alternate blocks and am just putting this up for a few days until I decide how I am going to proceed.  Bob likes just the blue/pink blocks together.

This shows an example of the 2nd block called Poinsettia Star. This was a WIP (work in progress) that was just moved to a PIG (project in grocery bag). This is my current WIP.  I took a class Saturday @ The Calico Cat downtown.  6 identical triangles are cut from the fabric to create these pinwheel hexagons.  The original fabric is shown on the table in the upper left hand corner.  I will be turning this into a small wallhanging quilt, hopefully a little fun in appearance with a few new to me techniques that I have not used before!
