Thread Tales From A Scrappy Quilter

This is a lovely scrappy quilt and that black inner sashing really enhances the colors.   To get the backing to the right size, she also added black borders on each side of her main fabric.   The golden beige color of the thread was so striking on the black.   My photo color does not capture how pretty this quilt finished.    Machine computer guided pantograph using  Bethanne Nemesh's Feather Grande and Omni thread in Creek Bed.

 I recently had the privilege to quilt several quilts for Lindsay, The Cottage Mama  for Houston's International Quilt Market this year!   I really enjoyed quilting these darling  quilts with a soft swirly whimsical flair that was requested to showcase her new "Dainty Darling" fabric line @ Riley Blake Designs.         This star quilt was most likely my last hand guided pantograph.  I was getting my new Innova with AP installed soon after this was quilted.   Hand guided "petal pushers" by Lisa Calle.   A bow design was quilted into each of the three quilts.     So much fun with all that luscious pink and being able to do "girly" designs.   I do love pink so these were extra special to quilt up.   Dresdens above custom quilted with a dahlia type spin on the Dresden with lots of curly, swirly fill as requested. ...

This is the perfect quilt for a boys room and also showcases some pretty fabrics and color.   Front and back!  Big 106" quilt for a growing boy.   Hand guided " Hot Nights" panto by August Moon.       The picture above and below are the back of the quilt.      In progress on the frame.   Client chose a King Tut variegated thread that blended over most of the quilt but really did shine on that blue outer border.   Loved that on the blue.  

Another cute one by Debbie.  I quilted  with a hand guided panto "Undulate" by Denise Schillinger.  I really like that pantograph and those that know me, know that reds and stars are always on the top of my favorite quilts list.  Wish this was mine!

These 3 lap quilts are off the frame.   All three used the same backing which was very busy and super to work with because most thread colors blended in nicely.  I had recently picked up a bundle of paper pantographs from someone  that had gone digital/computerized so was curious to try out some of those new patterns.  The beauty of working with a pantograph is that you don't have to worry about spacing on your quilt top.   Everything is very symetrical and well balanced but the downside is that you are working from behind, looking at a piece of paper and not the stitching.  These 3 would have also been good quilts for me to work on my own freehand fill designs but I just had to try out these patterns.   All quilts made from members scrap baskets. Jacobean panto, I liked it on paper but stitched out I feel it would have been perfect with something in the center of those leaves. ...
