Thread Tales From A Scrappy Quilter

Personally,  I love red and green quilts.  One last little quilt for 2015.  This clients' quilt is for a fund raiser and she wanted something  simple.    Hand guided pantograph "Undulate" by Denise Shillinger.   I really like this quilt.   So many ways this could be quilted.   I'm always thinking... what if I did this or that!  I toyed with doing light custom and not billing as a contribution to her charity.  It's hard to leave some designs, but we can't support everyone's charity and it IS just a few days before Christmas.   I knew it would be pretty with an allover.  Often, for busy prints, I like to choose a tight, one motif type design.  This quilt with all the sashings, I felt like something flowing over the surface, feathery  would be better.  A one motif design might really stand out stronger against the blocks.  The client is not fond of feathers so...

These cute quilts were quilted by me using 2 of my favorite designs.  It's amazing  sometimes how that panto or all over design really creates unity across scrappy quilts plus you get more quilting overall than a light custom treatment.  I love these and would enjoy snuggling with them any day.   Hand guided panto.  Undulate © Denise Schillinger       Hand guided panto.  Feathered Curls © Irene Steele  

These are back with the client and were  fun to quilt.  The first one is called Midnight Harvest and is a wool appliqué.   She wanted it quilted like the original which turned out to be quilted by Linda of The Quilted Pineapple!       The next one is called Spinning 9 Patch.   We chose a light custom for this one to play up her pretty piecework.      A portion of the quilt top to get a better idea of the quilt.    This one is one of my favorites!   The pattern is called Isabella.   The layout of this quilt would have been awesome for some detailed custom quilting, but the fabrics have so much detail that the quilting would have not shown.   She chose a panto called "Undulate" by Denise Schillinger and I LOVE this one.   The movement really seems to show at just the spaces where the quilting does show and it worked out perfect...
